The organization “Pindos Perivallontiki” expresses its solidarity with the efforts of citizens and environmental organizations opposing the tourism development project planned along Albania’s Ionian coastline.
The €1.4 billion tourism project, promoted by companies linked to Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Donald Trump, envisions the construction of a large tourist resort on Sazan Island and in areas of the protected Vjosa–Narta region, located in the delta of the Aoos (Vjosa) River.
This protected area does not need a tourist resort to validate its value. Its value is self-evident. Places such as the Aoos/Vjosa Delta provide habitats for both threatened and non-threatened species, serve as one of the most important bird migration routes, and constitute a critical ecosystem for the protection of biodiversity. They are also among the few remaining intact ecosystems in the Mediterranean.
“Pindos Perivallontiki”, together with environmental organizations in the neighboring country, has made the protection of the Aoos River an immediate priority along its entire course—from its spings in Greece to its delta near Vlorë in southern Albania.
The Aoos River connects the two countries on many levels. Protecting water resources and biodiversity is of the utmost importance. The greatest investment we have is the environment itself—and it is our responsibility to protect it.
